Pianist Jasmin Arakawa performs at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series

School of Music piano professor Jasmin Arakawa was a featured artist in the prestigious Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago on February 14. Arakawa performed solo piano works by Mompou, Haydn, Liszt and Françaix at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall, and the concert was broadcast live on WFMT, hosted by Dave Schwan.

Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts are named for British pianist Myra Hess, who organized some 1,700 free lunchtime concerts for Londoners during World War II. Led by Al Booth, the founder of the International Music Foundation, the first concert of Chicago’s Myra Hess Concert series took place in 1977, and more than 3,000 artists have appeared on the series over the course of the past 41 years.
