  • Description

Artists and culture bearers support recovery from all kinds of disasters. They have even been called “second responders” because their art can function as a mechanism for healing, political critique, record keeping, and more. Join a group of dance and theatre makers from San Juan, New Orleans, South Florida, and Gainesville for a thoughtful discussion about their work as it connects to expansive ideas of response and recovery.

    • UF COTA faculty members Rachel Carrico (Dance), Colleen Rua (Theatre), and Alana Jackson (Arts in Medicine)
    • Wanda Lloyd from Smooth Flava Dance (Gainesville, FL)
    • Darius Daughtry and others from Art Prevails Project (South Florida)
    • Choreographer Jarrell Hamilton (New Orleans, LA)
    • Yari Helfeld, Pedro Iván Bonilla, and Joel Guzmán, members of the theatre collective Y No Había Luz (San Juan, Puerto Rico)

Sponsored by the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (Rothman Endowment and with support from the Humanities Fund) with additional funding from the Center for Arts, Migration, and Entrepreneurship, and from the College of the Arts Creative B Summer Program in partnership with the Office of the Provost.
