Julia Morrisroe
School of Art + Art History/Drawing and Painting

Julia Morrisroe is an artist and Professor of Painting and Drawing.  Morrisroe holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Fine Arts from University of Washington.

Morrisroe's paintings, drawings and site specific projects are a reflection on the question that underlies all her work, what does it take to make a painting today? Morrisroe works with the flood of images and information that can be replicated, expanded, enhanced or associated with other images (relevant or not) instantaneously. This simultaneity of image and experience has led to images becoming hyper-contextualized. The image can no longer exist as a single painting but belongs to a network.  Morrisroe work explores this hyper-contextualized condition through installations, murals and clusters of paintings.  Morrisroe has exhibited her creative research throughout the United States and abroad. Her work was included in the national traveling exhibition “Comic Release: Negotiating Identity for the New Generation” which originated at Carnegie Mellon University, (PA). Morrisroe's site-specific projects have been commissioned at Purdue University, Bakehouse Gallery, Carnegie Mellon University and SPACES, and South Bend Museum of Art (IN).

Morrisroe serves on the Conference Committee of the College Art Association and has received grants from the State of Florida, Michigan and City of Chicago and serves on the Curatorial Board for 352Walls. Website: juliamorrisroe.com
